Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP)

The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) has asked every county (including us in Wrexham) to produce a Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP) which explains what we're going to do in the future for the benefit of children, young people, and their families. Our Children and Young People’s Plan is a partnership plan and involves all the partners and organisations which belong to our Children and Young People’s Framework Partnership. These include our Council, our Local Health Board, the North Wales NHS Trust, our police and probation services, our Fire and Rescue Service and the Third or voluntary sector in Wrexham.

Our vision for children and young people in Wrexham is:

  • To improve the quality of life for all in Wrexham County Borough and make it:
    1. a place where children and young people are valued
    2. a place that provides a framework which enables our children and young people to have high aspirations and to realise their dreams
    3. a place which ensures that all our children and young people have every opportunity to fulfil their potential

Wrexham’s Children and Young People’s Plan 2008-11 is set out in four main chapters which reflect the way in which we have organised our work with children, young people and their families. The chapters are:

  • Be Healthy and Active
  • Learn and Achieve
  • Be Safe from Harm
  • Enjoy, Participate and be Valued

These four chapters cover WAG's seven Core Aims which the Children and Young People’s Plan must address. The seven Core Aims are based on the United Nations Convention on the rights of the Child, and they say that all children and young people in Wales have the right to:

  1. A Flying Start in Life
  2. A Comprehensive Range of Education, Training, and Learning Opportunities
  3. The Best Possible Health Free from Abuse, Victimisation, and Exploitation
  4. Play, Leisure, Sporting and Cultural Activities
  5. Be Treated with Respect and have their Race and Cultural Identity Recognised
  6. A Safe Home and Community
  7. Not be disadvantaged by Poverty

We consulted on our draft plan in May-July 2008 and lots of people came to workshops and/or sent in response forms. We have included their comments and ideas in the final plan wherever possible.
