Victorian Christmas Market 2007 Video Transcript

Two ladies in Victorian dress say, “Merry Christmas.” A Victorian ‘policeman’ says, “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year as St Giles fills with Christmas cheer…”

We hear the sound of the vendor saying, “Chestnuts…hot chestnuts..” as he serves the two ladies in Victorian costume.

Background music of ‘Jingle Bells’ plays as the scene changes to people visiting the various stalls.
One stall-holder arranges her Christmas decorations.

After another general shot of the scene in St Giles churchyard, there is an interview with two of the performers in Victorian dress.

INTERVIEWER: “…And what are you looking for in the way of an eligible bachelor?”

The woman playing the daughter replies, “Landed – preferably gentry; obviously, quite well-endowed financially… erm – and not too portly!”

There follows general scenes, including one showing Punch & Judy.  Judy can be heard saying, “Hello boys and girls,” and they reply, “Hello Judy!”

There is a high angle view of visitors enjoying the Christmas market with the Victorian Policeman playing his hurdy-gurdy and saying, “Merry Christmas – Happy New Year as St Giles fills with Christmas cheer.”

A lady stall-holder shows some of the jewellery to a shopper.

Another entertainer is playing ‘Winter Wonderland’ on an electronic organ.

The scene then cuts to the Christmas tree at the entrance to St Giles Church, followed by a woman looking at one of the stalls.

The trio of musicians are playing ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’ and then the shot shows ‘Queen Victoria’ travelling on a Victorian carriage pulled by a donkey.

The Mayor of Wrexham is seen saying to the children, “The donkey’s coming.”

Then follows three interviews:

In the first with ‘Queen Victoria’, the interviewer says, “And you had a lovely donkey-ride in an authentic Victorian carriage through the town centre. What was that like?”
‘Queen Victoria’ replies, “That was absolutely wonderful.  It was really nice. Nice to see all the chidlren’s faces and just waving to them. It was really special.”

In the second interview with a lady in Victorian costume, she says, “It’s the third time we’ve been and this is so comfortable inside – it’s warm and dry.  But we’ve had a lot of fun even when it’s been raining outside over the last years. And it’s lovely to see everybody come.

In the final interview with the Mayor of Wrexham, she says, “I think this is a wonderful idea having this Victorian evening and it’s lovely to see so many people that have come out.  It’s a really crisp evening and as we came into church the snow was coming down, so it just added that little bit to it. And it’s lovely to see so many people out and about and enjoying the event.”
The final shot is of the Victorian Christmas Market, with a Christmas Carol ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’ playing in the background.

The final Credit says, ‘Filmed and Produced by George Green’
