Wrexham St.David’s Day Celebration and Champion Sausage Competition 2008

Wrexham hosted a day of celebrations on March 1st to mark St David’s Day 2008. Up to 40 stalls selling a range of Welsh produce and crafts; story telling of Welsh legends for children; craft workshops including a coracle maker; children’s entertainment, face-painting and musical performances including 2 choirs and a solo harpist provided the entertainment for the day. The event also featured the final of the Wrexham Champion Sausage competition presided over by professional sausage judge Dennis Elliott with assistance from Welsh produce chef Colin Pressdee. Colin also provided two cookery demonstrations during the day using the best of local produce.

The sausage competition proved to be an exciting event with 9 top quality independent Wrexham butchers putting their sausage-making skills to the test. The winner, R.S.Williams Butchers who entered their Welsh Pork & Chive Sausage, was announced by the Mayor of Wrexham at 1.30pm.

Butcher, Jeremy Williams said, “We are absolutely delighted to have won. The competition was very well run and well attended. It’s great for trade in Wrexham and long may it continue”.

The winner is now entitled to compete in the National Supreme Champion of Champions event in London in October.
