Childminders

Childminders look after children in their own home and are registered with Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales. Childminders may be willing to pick up your child from school or take them to playgroup or parent and toddler group. Childminders can provide full or part time care and typically look after children aged 0-8 but some may be willing to look after older children.

Day Nursery

Privately run day nurseries provide full or part-time care and pre-school education, usually for 0-5 year olds but sometimes for older children outside school hours and during school holidays. They must be registered with Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales.

Playgroups

Playgroups cater for children aged 2 to 5 for 2 to 3 hours in the morning or the afternoon and typically during term-time. They offer a safe and stimulating environment in which children can play, learn and socialise with other children. Cylchoedd Meithrin are Welsh language playgroups which give children an opportunity to become bilingual.

Playgroup Plus

Playgroup Plus is offered either as an extension of a playgroup service or to complement Local Authority Nursery Education Classes. Groups operate for up to 4 hours a day. There is a greater element of day care than in a traditional playgroup service. Cylchoedd Meithrin Mmy are Welsh language playgroup plus which give children an opportunity to become bilingual.

Parent and Toddler Group

Parent and Toddler Groups cater mainly for children under 2 years. Parents/carers stay with their children, so they do not have to register with Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales. The sessions allow parents and children to mix with others and enjoy a variety of different activities. Cylchoedd Ti a Fi offer parents and carers an opportunity to enjoy playing with their children and socialise in an informal Welsh atmosphere.

Out of School Club

Out of School Clubs provide playcare for children aged 3 to 14 before and after school. Clubs must be registered with Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales. Clubs offer a wide range of activities for children to choose from such as art/craft, sport, cooking, indoor and outdoor games and a quiet corner to read or do homework.

Holiday Club

Some Out of School Clubs provide playcare for children aged 3 to 14 for the full day during the school holidays. Clubs must be registered with Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales. Clubs offer a wide range of activities for children to choose from such as art/craft, sport, cooking, indoor and outdoor games and a quiet corner to read.
