Wrexham County Borough Council Childcare Sufficiency Assessment 2017 - 2022

Wrexham County Borough Council has a statutory duty under the Childcare Act 2006 to secure as far as is reasonably practicable, sufficient childcare for 0-15 year olds (and 15-17 years in the case of disabled children) to meet the requirements of working parents/carers, or parents/carers undertaking education or training that will lead to work.

Integral to this duty is the requirement to complete a Childcare Sufficiency Assessment (CSA) every five years, which assesses the supply of, and demand for, childcare in the local authority area and identifies gaps in provision.  Recommendations from the CSA and subsequent annual reviews are used to develop an action plan, which details the actions that will be taken by the local authority and its partners to fulfil their market management obligations.  The objective of the CSA is to identify gaps in the provision of childcare and set out actions to narrow these gaps moving towards a position of ‘sufficiency’ across the County Borough.
