Accident and Injury Prevention
Wrexham Local Health Alliance hosted a multi-agency seminar ‘ Working
Together to Reduce Accidents and Injuries in Older People’ in September
2002.
An “Accident Prevention Group for Older People” has been
established with representation from : North Wales Health Authority, Public
Health, Local Health Board, Social Services and Housing Departments (Wrexham
County Borough Council), Age Concern North East Wales and Care and Repair.
The group have met and prioritised target areas for action on the basis
of current information. The target areas are :
-
Raising the profile and awareness of accident prevention in older
people, particularly in relation to falls, by carrying out a baseline
assessment of existing resources and information, identifying gaps
and assessing how relevant organisations can assist in the dissemination
of existing information.
-
Identifying those people in organisations and the community that
would be appropriate for accident prevention training by CAPIC (Collaboration
for Accident Prevention and Injury Control)
-
Identifying and reviewing additional areas of funding that would
complement accident and injury prevention in older people.
