Wrexham Council has reviewed and amended its Direct Payment Policy and Terms (Consultation Draft January 2009) which set out the terms and conditions of the Direct Payments Scheme in Wrexham.
There are a number of ways that a person's social care and well-being needs can be met; either through services provided by the Council for the individual, or through the payment of monies directly to an individual, in order to meet their support and care needs. Direct Payments offer a less traditional way of meeting social and personal needs. Instead of support being provided by Social Services, an individual is given the money to set up services themselves. This can give greater control over who will help you and in what way they will do it. This could also fit in better with lifestyle and give greater choice for how needs will be met.
Direct Payments are available to anyone whose needs are eligible for support, following a community care assessment and who is able to choose a Direct Payment. This includes Adults, Young disabled people aged 16/17 years, Parents and people with parental responsibility for disabled children, Carers (including young carers). The policy continues to support Wrexham’s commitment to the Direct Payments Scheme, which promotes and improves the quality of life of people who would like to manage their own support. It promotes independence and aids social inclusion by offering opportunities for rehabilitation, education, employment, leisure and family support for people who need services, giving them increased flexibility, choice and empowerment based on individual preferences, values and needs.
