A Heritage Strategy for Wrexham County Borough The Heritage Strategy states why our local heritage is important and lays out a strategy for our local heritage for the next five years.
Wrexham County Borough has a rich heritage from prehistoric times up to the present day. Inside the county borough there is heritage of regional, national and international importance.
Many different organisations are involved in conserving, interpreting, sharing knowledge of and promoting our local heritage including
The County Borough Heritage Service
Planning, Education and Econ development departments of Wrexham County Borough Council
National and regional heritage organisations eg National Trust and British Waterways
Community based heritage groups eg Friends of Wrexham Museums, local history groups, Wrexham Civic Trust and the Ceiriog Memorial Institute.
National and regional bodies: CyMAL - The Council for Museum, Archives and Libraries in Wales, Cadw, Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales and the National Museums and Galleries of Wales.
The strategy discusses the strengths and weaknesses in our local heritage.
It also describes the opportunities and threats to our local heritage.
The Aim of the Heritage StrategyMany people and organisations in our communities already recognise the importance of our heritage. We want our heritage to matter to everyone and to make a difference to everyone's lives.
Our vision for heritage in Wrexham is to enable the full potential of our heritage to flourish, so that it can make the maximum possible contribution and enrich all aspects of life in the County Borough, for the benefit of local residents and visitors alike.
The Strategy makes a series of recommendations for the next five years, 2005-2010:
Raise awareness and understanding of our heritage and the contribution it can make to everyone's life
Strengthen the partnerships and resources that support heritage
Ensure that heritage plays a full role in strengthening our communities
