Of the 501 respondents just over a quarter (29%) stated that they owned a dog. When asked if dog should be allowed in specified areas (see below) most respondents agreed.

When asked if dog owners should be required to keep their dogs on a lead at all times in specified areas, at lease four fifths of panellists agreed that they should be responsible for keeping their dog on a lead at all times.

  • On the roads (76% Strongly agree, 13% agree)
  • On pedestrianised areas (71% Strongly agree, 17% agree)
  • On pavements (70% Strongly agree, 17% agree)
  • In public car parks (76% Strongly agree, 16% agree)
  • On land adjacent to roads (e.g. grass verges) (59% Strongly agree, 21% agree)

With the highest being 89% agreeing they should be kept on a lead at all times on roads, and the lowest being 80%.

All of the respondents were asked if they knew how to contact the councils ‘out-of-hours stray dog service’. Just over a quarter of the respondents (29%) said yes.
