The percentage of respondents who feel safe during the day in the borough has continued to climb since 2005, now standing at 93%. With the percentage who feel Very Safe climbing significantly since 2005 (42% v 35% respectively). The responses showed that those in owned accommodation were significantly more likely to state they feel very/fairly safe.

The percentage of people who feel Very Safe out and about during the day climbed to 42% (compared to 40% in 2007, and 35% in 2005).
There was also a significant decrease in the percentage of people who feel Unsafe out and about at night in the borough, with 57% of people feeling ‘Fairly’ or ‘Very Safe’ (compared to 41% in 2007, and 34% in 2005).

Although the general feeling of safety has risen considerably over the last 4 years respondents still indicated there is a significant gap between feelings of safety during the day and night (93% v 57%).
In relation to general feelings of safety in WCBC; there was a 3% increase of people feeling safe at home during the day (99%, compared to 96% in both 2005 and 2007), a 5% increase in people feeling safe walking alone during the day (compared to 91%, and 86% in 2005).

There was a similar rise in people’s general feelings of safety at night as well, with 83% feeling safe at home on their own (compared to 80% in 2007, and 71% in 2005), and a 13% increase in the number of people feeling safe walking alone at night (46%, compared to 33% in 2007, and 23% in 2005).
Of the respondents that indicated they felt unsafe walking home at night 67% were women and 65% were unemployed.
Almost everyone who responded (99%) stated they felt safe in Wrexham Town Centre during the day on a weekday, a rise of 4% on 2007. With 91% stated they felt safe during the day on a weekends, a rise of 6% on 2007. There has also been significant increase in the number or respondents who feel safe during the night on a weekday, with a rise of 7% from 48% in 2007. One of the greatest increases has been in the number of respondents feeling safe during the night on a weekend, with the number almost doubling over the last 4 years (23% in 2005, 31% in 2007, and 44% in 2009).

Of the respondents 73% believe crime within Wrexham Town Centre has either improved or stayed the same (10% and 63% respectively), with 78% believing the same of WCBC (14% and 64% respectively). There was a 3% increase from 2007 of people who believed crime within Wrexham Town Centre is worse, though it is still a decrease of 10% form 2005 (37% in 2005, 24% in 2007, and 27% in 2009).
