Pride in your Streets

Just under half of the People’s Voice panellists (45%) had heard of ‘Pride in your Streets’. When asked what they believed the scheme was about, typical responses were that it was a mechanism for reporting problems and a scheme aimed at improving the appearance of the Wrexham Borough.

Respondents who had heard of the scheme were most likely to have done so:

  • through the local newspaper (58%)
  • Wrexham Council magazine (46%)
  • leaflets (35%)
  • Wrexham Council’s website (15%)

Less than a fifth (15%) of those who had heard of ‘Pride in your Streets’ had contacted the Council about it, most (62%) by telephone.  However, when asked only 11% of those who had heard of the scheme knew the telephone number.

Of those who had, reasons for doing so included problems with litter, dog fouling, footpaths and street lighting.

Satisfaction with the service

The majority of panellists were satisfied with all aspects of contacting the Council in relation to ‘Pride in your Streets’.

Respondents were most likely to be satisfied with ‘grass cutting’ (76%), ‘shrub/flower bed maintenance’ (71%) and ‘street lighting’ (70%).   They were most likely to be dissatisfied with ‘road maintenance’ (51%) and ‘reducing/removing dog fouling’ (45%).

When asked whether services had got better, worse or stayed the same over the previous 12 months, between 47% and 76% of panellists thought that all of the services had got worse.  Just under a third of respondents thought that ‘shrub/flower bed maintenance’ (31%) and ‘litter collection’ (28%) had got better in the previous 12 months.

Despite high levels of satisfaction (80% - figure 12) respondents were most likely to state that ‘street lighting’ (76%) had got worse in the last 12 months.

Effective publicity:
The most successful publicity routes for the scheme were local newspapers, the Connect magazine, and through leaflets.
