Policy for Letting Council Accommodation

This document outlines the policy that Wrexham County Borough Council will follow when letting its accommodation as required by the Housing Act 1996 (amended by the Homelessness Act 2002).

The policy has been written in accordance with Welsh Assembly Government’s Code of Guidance on the Allocation of Accommodation and Homelessness. It also takes into account the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 and the Commission for Racial Equalities Code of Practice in Rented Housing.

When re-letting its empty homes Wrexham County Borough Council aims to:

  • Assist those in the greatest housing need
  • Treat all groups in the community fairly
  • Be transparent in its decisions
  • Provide applicants with advice and assistance about their re-housing options
  • Make best use of the housing stock
  • Contribute towards its strategic work most notably in relation to the local Housing Strategy, Health, Social Care and Well-Being Strategy, the Community Safety Strategy, and the Homelessness Strategy.
