Retirement Accommodation - Wardens

What does the Warden do?

Our friendly Wardens are practical and understanding, familiar with the circumstances and problems of older people.

  • She or he is there to look after the overall well being of the tenants in the scheme.
  • Deal with emergencies
  • Encourage social activities
  • Liaise with family / relatives in the event of illness
  • Clean communal areas
  • Give information and advice on services that are available
  • Carries out a daily visit to tenants within the scheme to ensure all is well

Should a tenant need assistance, for example because of ill health, the Warden will contact the particular service required (e.g. a relative, doctor etc).

To enable the Warden to do this, he / she will require certain information, such as names, addresses and telephone numbers of close relatives and doctors, as well as details of medical conditions the Warden should be aware of. The type of Retirement Accommodation provided in the Borough is intended for people who can look after themselves or who have the support of family or other services to help them manage in their own home, therefore Wardens will not provide help with:

  • Shopping
  • Cleaning
  • Collection pensions
  • Looking after valuables or money
  • Administer drugs or medicines

The Warden is not on duty 24 hours a day, therefore tenants are asked to respect the need for privacy in his or her off-duty hours.

Wardens cover the unit within care hours then switch over to the Care Call System in the evening.
