Your Housing and Council Tax Benefit may be terminated for the following reasons:
- You moved out of the Wrexham County Borough Council area.
- The death of the person who made the claim.
- Your capital exceeds the £16,000 limit.
- Your income exceeds the amount needed to be entitled to benefit.
- The non-dependant deductions applicable to your claim mean that you no longer qualify for benefit.
- You qualify for less than 50p per week Housing Benefit.
- You are no longer liable to pay either rent or Council Tax, or both.
- You are temporarily absent from home longer than we are able to pay benefit for, dependant upon your circumstances.
- You have been awarded an extended payment and you do not qualify for any on-going benefit now that you are in work.
- You have failed to respond to requests asking for evidence and information to substantiate your on going benefit claim.
- Your circumstances mean that for a consecutive period exceeding 13 weeks you do not meet the conditions of entitlement.
When will my benefit end?
In most of the cases mentioned above your benefit will end at the end of the benefit week in which your circumstances change (a benefit week ends on Sunday). The following are variances to this rule:
Cases 1, 2, and 7:
Your Council Tax Benefit will end in line with the end of your liability. Most peoples Housing Benefit will end at the end of the benefit week in which your liability ceases (this will always be the following Sunday). There are certain circumstances when Housing Benefit will end in line with your liability ending, as and when this occurs we will let you know.
Case 10:
Your Housing and Council Tax Benefit will be terminated on either:
- The date upon which your payments were terminated.
- A date earlier than the date upon which we suspended payments, if we feel the decision can be justified.
What will happen when my benefit ends?
The Council are required by law to notify you in writing of the date upon which benefit payments will cease and the reason why. We will also advise you of your appeal rights regarding the decision, and the need to make a new claim should you wish to claim benefit again.
If the termination results in an overpayment of benefit we will write to you separately about this. Please see the Overpayment section.
