What information do I need to provide?

The more information that you can provide about an alleged fraud, the more likely we will be in stopping it, but please don’t be put off if you have only limited information to give us.

We have provided a list of details that would be helpful to us to know, if you are able to provide this information:

  • The full name and address of person you suspect of committing benefit fraud
  • What you suspect them of doing wrong, for example failing to declare that they are working, or that they are living with someone we don’t know about
  • A description of person you suspect, for example, their height, build, hair colour, distinguishing marks, usual manner of dressing.

If you suspect someone of failing to declare that they are working:

  • The name and address of their employer
  • The length of time they have been working
  • The number of hours they work
  • Their working hours.

If someone is not declaring that they are living with their partner:

  • The name of the person you suspect they are living with
  • A description of that person
  • The date you suspect that person moved in.

If someone is no longer living at an address:

  • The date which they left
  • The address they may have moved to
  • Does someone still come to collect the post?

If someone is not declaring all their income:

  • What the other income is, how often it is received, and how much is it?

There are two other pieces of information that can be vital to us:

  • If the person has a vehicle it is usual to know the make (e.g. Vauxhall), model (e.g. Vectra), its colour, and if possible, its registration number. If they have a commercial vehicle it is also helpful to know about any signs, markings or business details shown on the vehicle.
  • If you suspect the person is violent, or has a problem that could be dangerous to our officers please pass on this information.

This list is not comprehensive. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated and will always be treated in the strictest confidence.
