This page and the attached Policy statement sets out the Council’s policy for applying sanctions to persons and external organisations who commit fraud against the Council.
This Policy has been made in accordance with the Council’s “Anti-Fraud and Corruption Strategy” which states:
“The Council will seek to prosecute or apply other appropriate sanctions to perpetrators of fraud and corruption”.
It should be understood that the Council (all elected members and any employees or agents working for it) fully supports this policy and will seek to implement it. Any persons or organisations who commit fraud against the Council can expect to be sanctioned accordingly.
In recognition of the Council’s strategic aims and its status as a responsible steward of public funds, this Policy is aimed at ensuring that benefit fraud is effectively countered and deterred. Its specific objectives are to:
Maintain and generate public confidence in and respect for the Council, by helping to ensure that justice is seen as being done.
