The Broadband Brokerage Scheme
The Broadband Brokerage Scheme, developed by the Welsh Assembly Government, in partnership with the Broadband Wales Observatory, is a new scheme designed to give residents and businesses the opportunity to "be heard".
This scheme is essentially a registration facility for private consumers, businesses and voluntary organisations to register potential demand for the basic (512kps) broadband, higher bandwidths of broadband and symmetrical services (SDSL).
The primary objective of the Broadband Brokerage Scheme is to:
- Underpin the 'business case' for investment in broadband by infrastructure providers
and government in Wales.
- Identify unsatisfied/unserved demand from consumers, businesses and voluntary organisations for 'first generation' broadband, i.e. asymmetrical services with speeds between 512kbps and 2Mbps
- Identify unsatisfied/unserved demand from consumers, businesses and voluntary organisations for second generation broadband, i.e. symmetrical and asymmetrical services with speeds between 2Mbps and 10 Mbps.
