Improvement Plan 2007 / 2008

Welcome to Wrexham County Borough Council's 2007/08 Annual Improvement Plan. This is the Council's key performance and service delivery document, outlining our vision and commitments for the coming year and comprehensively detailing our progress and performance during the last year.

Rising expectations coupled with decreasing resources are dominating the local authority agenda. The need to respond and take pro-active action is essential for the improvement of Wrexham County Borough. Providing the right services, efficiently, effectively and in a citizen focused way, will ensure that now and in the future, visible and significant progress is made. This dedication to delivering what matters ensures that Wrexham is 'Fit for the Future'.

In 2006/07 we maintained our high level of performance, exceeding the improvements realised in 2005/06. Real tangible progress has been made in many of our key priority areas in the last 12 months.

Key Achievements

  • Increased home care provision
  • Occupational Therapy waiting lists reduced
  • Recycling rates increased to 19.53%
  • Signing of the waste PFI project
  • The People's Voice survey has shown that over 90% of the population feel safe or very safe in the County Borough of Wrexham

Coupled with these key achievements is the necessity to build upon our success and look beyond the horizon to ensure that Wrexham is continually improving. The ability to consistently provide an efficient customer orientated service is at the forefront of our minds acting.

Key Commitments

  • To increase the average external qualifications points score for 16 year olds
  • Continue development of partnership work and implement our strategy to continue work to reduce anti-social behaviour
  • To increase the percentage of municipal waste reused, recycled and composted to 35%
  • Launch and deliver our Streetscene Service delivery

Strategic Directors and Chief Officers will work alongside elected members to ensure targets are attained and continuing progress is maintained. Ongoing work with our partners in the public, private and voluntary sector will be pivotal in delivering what matters to the people of Wrexham in 2007/08. This collaborative approach to the challenges ahead will no doubt ensure that 2007/08 is another successful year.

Many challenges lie ahead and only the dedication and endeavour from the community, staff and elected members will bring about the success that everyone is striving for. Hopefully the contents of this plan will stimulate and encourage you to think about the role that you can play in ensuring that Wrexham is a prosperous and vibrant place to live, work and visit.
