How will I know when an election is coming up in my area?
If you are registered to vote, electoral services will send you a poll card towards the end of March telling you when an election is happening and where and when you need to vote. However, it is possible that some elections will be uncontested, in which case, we will write to all electors in these areas to advise that they will not be required to vote as the Candidates have been returned opposed.
This just means that If the number of validly nominated candidates does not exceed the number of vacancies, they will be declared elected and these will be no need for a vote.
You can find out if an election is coming up in your area by going to our 'Who is standing in my area?' page. This information will be published around 8 April 2008.
