LEADER +

The LEADER+ programme is operated in Wrexham by Northern Marches Cymru, a partnership of organisations representing rural interests.

The aim of Northern Marches Cymruis to develop the capacity of the rural communities of Wrexham to regenerate their environmental, cultural, economic and social vitality.

The LEADER+ programme is testing innovative approaches to developing the economy of rural Wrexham. Northern Marches Cymruis operating a range of community-based projects to build the economic vitality of rural areas. These projects work with the local community to make better use of the natural and cultural resources of the area through activities which will bring a benefit to the area long after LEADER+ ends in 2006.

In particular the programme is supporting the development of new community-based tourism attractions and activities, together with support for events and festivals. This process will bring tourism income into the rural areas and will help to support rural facilities, shops and services
