A 51-year-old woman pleaded guilty to failing to declare that her mother was no longer resident at an address that she was claiming Housing and Council Tax benefits from. The overpayment was £2468.07. She was ordered to repay the money.


14 April 2005

An 18-year-old man was found of fraudulently claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefits because he failed to declare that he was working. The man failed to attend several interviews at the office to discuss the matter. The total overpayment was £506.81. He was fined £150.

A 43-year-old man pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefits and Income Support from Wrexham County Borough Council and the Department for Work and Pensions because he failed to declare that he was working. The total overpayment was £5209.54. He was sentenced to an 80 hour Community Punishment Order.


14 April 2005

A 51-year-old woman pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Council Tax Benefit because she failed to declare that she had savings. The total overpayment was £1746.98. She was sentenced a 12 month conditional discharge.


26 May 2005

A 47-year-old man pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefits and Income Support from Wrexham County Borough Council and the Department for Work and Pensions because he failed to declare that he was working. The total Housing and Council Tax Benefits overpayment was £2073.79. He was sentenced to a 200 hour Community Punishment Order.


26 May 2005

A 32-year-old woman pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefits because she failed to declare that she was working. The woman had been offered an administrative sanction from Wrexham County Borough Council, but had failed to attend any of the appointments that were made for her. The total overpayment was £503.44. She was fined £150.


14 July 2005

A 57-year-old man pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefits because he failed to declare that he was working. The total overpayment was £2058.76. He was fined £300.


28 July 2005

A 47-year-old woman pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Council Tax Benefit from Wrexham County Borough Council and Income Support from the Department for Work and Pensions because she failed to declare that she was in receipt of an occupational pension. The total overpayment was £10007.58. She was sentenced to a 4-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

A 27-year-old woman pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefits because she failed to declare that her partner was working. The total overpayment was £2223.29. She was sentenced an 18 month conditional discharge.

A 22-year-old man pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefits because he failed to declare that he was no longer in receipt of Job Seeker's Allowance. The man failed to appear in court and was eventually arrested. The total overpayment was £346.22. He was sentenced a 12 month conditional discharge.

The man failed to attend several interviews at the office to discuss the matter. The man failed to appear in court and was eventually arrested. The total overpayment was £499.22. He was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge. He was sentenced to a 200 hour Community Punishment Order.

The total overpayment was £7682.32. He was sentenced to a 200 hour Community Punishment Order.

A 59-year-old man pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Council Tax Benefits from Wrexham County Borough Council and Income Support from the Department for Work and Pensions because he failed to declare that he had savings. The total overpayment was £13272.60. He was sentenced to a 240 hour Community Punishment Order.


14 October 2005

A 47-year-old man pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefits from Wrexham County Borough Council and Income Support from the Department for Work and Pensions because he failed to declare that he had savings. The total overpayment was £28037.93. He was sentenced to a 240 hour Community Punishment Order.

A 21-year-old woman pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefits because she failed to declare that her partner was working. The total overpayment was £2290.47. She was fined £100.

A 65-year-old man was found guilty to fraudulently claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefits because he failed to declare that he had a non-dependant person living in his household. The total overpayment was £5945.54. He was sentenced to a 2-year conditional discharge.

A 40-year-old man pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefits from Wrexham County Borough Council and Income Support from the Department for Work and Pensions because he failed to declare his full income from his self-employment. The total overpayment was £3023.42. He was fined £250.

A 37-year-old woman pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Housing and Council Tax Benefits from Wrexham County Borough Council and Income Support from the Department for Work and Pensions because she failed to declare that she was working. The total overpayment was £22973.17. She was sentenced to a 120 hour Community Punishment Order.

A 29 year old woman was sentenced to a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to £80 costs following an investigation into his claim for Housing and Council Tax Benefits.  The woman failed to declare that she had a second job. The Housing and Council Tax benefit overpayments were £2289.21.

A 49 year old man was sentenced to a 3 month prison sentence suspended for 12 months, a 12 month supervision order and a curfew order (for the hours 8:00 pm to 7:00 am) following a joint investigation with the Department for Work and Pensions. The man had savings in excess of £16000 that he had failed to declare. The Housing and Council Tax benefit overpayments were £5062.99; there was a further overpayment of Income Support.

A 40-year-old woman form Cefn Mawr was found guilty of failing to inform the benefits section of Wrexham County Borough Council that her entitlement to income support had ceased, she was fined £250 and ordered to pay £250 costs.

A Wrexham man admitted that he had been working and claiming benefit, he was given a 12 months supervisory order and ordered to pay £250 costs.

A woman from Little Acton pleaded guilty to failing to declare a change in her financial circumstances and was given a 12 month Community Punishment Order and a 12 month Rehabilitation Order.


09/01/2007

A woman from Rossett was found guilty of failing to inform the benefits section
of Wrexham County Borough Council that her entitlement to Income Support had ceased. She was given an 18 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £240 costs.

A 44 year old woman was sentenced to a 3 month prison sentence suspended for 12 months following a joint investigation with the Department for Work and Pensions.
