Roles & Functions of the Mayor

 

Roles of the Mayor

  • To act as a symbol of the Authority and its area. As First Citizen, the Mayor represents the whole of the Wrexham County Borough and acts as a symbol of continuity;

  • to act as a link between the Council and the citizens of the County Borough, as an expression of social cohesion;

  • as the First Citizen is elected from within the Members of the Council irrespective of class, gender and ethnic background, the Mayor is a symbol of open society;

  • to act as focal point in times of crisis, tragedy or triumph.

Functions of the Mayor

  • To preside over meetings of the Council and to exercise a casting vote in the event of an equality of votes;

  • except in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen and Members of the Royal Family (including also the Lord Lieutenant in his/her official capacity) to have precedence at any function within the County Borough;

  • to preside at civic functions.
