OW People's Market Site Visit

Works to transform the former People's Market into a regional arts and market facility are progressing well and positive benefits for the town centre are already being seen.

New LED lighting and a fresh coat of paint to the stairwells has left the areas brighter and more welcoming for visitors to the town centre. Shops in the South Arcade have also had a makeover with new paint to the fronts and new signage.

There are plans to include new doors from the car park into the facility which will allow authorised access for visitors from the car park.

Following a recent site visit the Council's Lead member for Communities, Partnerships, Public Protection and Community Safety, said:

"The new lighting and decor has certainly made a difference to the stairwells and I am sure it has been appreciated by those who use the current car park on a regular basis. Works on the arts and market facility are progressing really well and we will soon see the former market hall transformed into an arts and market facility that will be of enormous value to Wrexham"

When completed the facility will house market stalls, food outlets, seating areas, two new galleries, performance space and room for art and school groups to use.

The £4.5 million arts development is due to be completed in 2018 and is supported by funding from the Arts Council for Wales, the Welsh Government's Vibrant and Viable Places and Wrexham Council.

Throughout the works, members of the public are reminded that the businesses within the South Arcade are open as usual.

Every Saturday there are free craft activities in the Arcade and project updates can be found on the new noticeboard within Cafe in the Corner.
