£1.2 million has been allocated to Chirk railway station is to improve its access. The funding was announced by the Department for Transport as part of increased investment to provide improved access to stations throughout the country.
The work will be completed by March 2014.
Working with the North Wales Regional Transport Consortia, Taith, the enhancements will compliment a series of improvements to Rail infrastructure throughout Wrexham that have seen improvements to passenger information services on the Borderlands line, improved parking facilities at Ruabon and Chirk Stations, accessibility improvements at Wrexham General Station and the proposed introduction of CCTV at Chirk Ruabon and Wrexham General Stations.
Councillor David Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport said
"We welcome these further enhancements to the rail infrastructure through Wrexham. These improvements will help to encourage more passengers to utilise these services and are a reflection of the increased passenger levels that are utilising rail as a means of transport. The proposals reflect the lobbying we have made through the transport consortia for rail improvements throughout North Wales. They are a crucial part of our integrated approach to transport improvements here at Wrexham and across Taith".
