Customer Information Screens for Rail Passengers

Wrexham County Borough Council is proud to announce the installation of new customer information screens at both Ruabon and Chirk Railway Stations.

The screens on both platforms show live train running information and supplement the current public address system, giving valuable information to passengers on arrivals and departures. The project was funded by TAITH by utilisation of Transport Grant from the Welsh Assembly Government, through Wrexham County Borough Council. The assistance of Arriva Trains Wales and Network Rail, in aiding the development and installation of the new facilities, is also acknowledged.

Martin Wright, Chief Transportation & Asset Management Officer of Wrexham County Borough Council stated “This is the latest in an on-going series of improvements to passenger transport services in the County Borough. National surveys indicate that security and reliability are two of the key factors considered when utilising passenger transport services. We are pleased that it has been possible to expend Transport Grant to provide further comfort, to residents and visitors alike, of exactly when the services that they wish to utilise will arrive. We have introduced real time information to two bus corridors, with a further three planned this year, further evidence of the Councils commitment to sustainability”.

Councillor David Bithell from Johnstown, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport said, real time information will be a significant benefit to passengers using the rail network which supports the growing demand for rail services in Wrexham and North East Wales. I am also pleased that from 2nd June 2008 Wrexham and Llangollen bus services will call at Ruabon Railway Station and this will provide a greater link for passengers between bus and rail services.

The Customer Information Screens show scheduled and real time information on the next three or four services in the direction of travel, scrolling to display the stations which the next service will call at as well as its destination and the train operator.
