Grant scheme set to benefit communities in West Wrexham

Community groups in West Wrexham can once again access up to £250 to help them with their activities.

This is the third year that the West Wrexham Partnership, in conjunction with Wrexham Council’s Economic Development Department, will be administering the Small Grants Scheme.

The scheme can fund projects from April 2010 to March 2011 that involve local people in their local community, and covers the following areas: Coedpoeth, Gwersyllt, Brymbo, Rhosrobin, Bradley, Brynteg, Moss, Summerhill, Pentre Broughton, Southsea, Lodge, Llay, New Broughton, Tanyfron, Caego and Pandy.

Last year, over 30 community groups successfully applied for funding. The scheme helped buy new seating and a community notice board for a village recreation area, assisted a newly formed luncheon club by paying for their room hire and helped a computer club to buy new equipment and create a community newsletter.

David Millington, chair of the West Wrexham Partnership, said: “Grants of up to £250 will be available and could make a real difference for local community groups.

“A grant can be used for setting up a group, assisting with venue hire, publicity or used as match-funding to draw down larger sums of money.

“Purchasing new equipment or hosting a community event could also be eligible, so I would encourage existing and new groups to get in touch.”

Assistance and support in setting up new community groups and activities is available from the West Wrexham Community Development Team.
