Wrexham's Big Day Out (6th June 2009)

Live music, a treasure hunt, kite making and free smoothies will be available as part of Wrexham’s Big Day Out, a community extravaganza which is happening on Saturday June 6 at Llwyn Isaf and Queens Square.

Wrexham Council will be one of 80 organisations, services and community groups with stalls and activities for all the family on the day. Highlights include demonstrations from North Wales Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue and live music and entertainment throughout the day. Health Challenge Wrexham will also be offering free smoothies and netball sessions in a bid to encourage people to live healthy lifestyles. Experts will also be on hand at the Health Challenge Wrexham Marquee on Llwyn Isaf to offer advice on keeping a healthy weight and reaching ideal bmi (body mass index) targets. Local nurses will also be on hand to measure your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose levels.

There will be plenty on offer for children and young people as well, with a fun packed kids treasure hunt. Keen gamers will also be catered for with a Nintendo Wii and Guitar Hero Challenge on Queen’s Square. Members from the local ‘Parkour’ group will also be on hand to offer a demonstration. Parkour involves running, jumping, vaulting, and climbing obstacles in natural or urban environments to get to your destination in the quickest time. Obstacles can be anything from a rail that is blocking your path, a set of steps that would be easier to jump down instead of run down or a large wall that would be much quicker to climb than run around.

There will also be numerous stalls and organisations on hand to offer advice and support, such as Wrexham Council’s Adult Social Care Service, Shopmobility and Tenancy Support.
