Compost Awareness Week - The Great Compost Giveaway Returns
Wrexham Council will be marking National Compost Awareness Week 2008 (4th-10th May) this year with a number of events. Residents are invited to come and mark the week by attending the 5th Home Composting Promotional event including Compost Giveaway. Wrexham residents are invited to take away some free compost (provided by Waste Recycling Group Limited) resulting from the Recycle with Michael Scheme’s garden waste collections Residents are asked to bring along a sack and shovel to collect the compost.
The events are to be held on Wednesday, 7th May 10am – 4pm at Alyn Waters Country Park and Saturday, 10th May 10am – 4pm at Ty Mawr Country Park.
The Wrexham in Bloom team will also be on hand to give demonstrations in how to make hanging baskets using some of the compost provided.
A Council Spokesperson explained, “These events are always popular because residents not only get to learn something new about home composting but can come along and take some of the end product resulting from putting their garden waste into their green waste bins.”
A Recycling Officer is also due to set up a wormery with pupils at Penycae Infants so that pupils will able to compost fruit and vegetable waste produced within the school.
