Eagle's Meadow Starts to Take Shape
The Eagles Meadow development, Wrexham’s new shopping and leisure destination is about to take shape and just two years on from the signing of a partnership agreement between Wilson Bowden Developments and Wrexham County Borough Council.
Eagles Meadow began to rise from the ground today when the first of the steelworks that will form the structure of the development were placed. A ceremony was held on site to mark the occasion and was attended by the Council’s Lead Member for Economic Prosperity, Asset Management and Culture Cllr Bob Dutton OBE, Paul Roberts, Strategic Director at Wrexham Council and Nick Richardson, Managing Director of developers of Eagles Meadow Wilson Bowden Developments.
Construction work at Eagles Meadow, the 400,000 sq ft development is now well underway. Work on site started in May this year, foundations are now in and work has begun on the new ring road that will divert traffic away from the existing ‘Asda’ flyover and around the development.
Nick Richardson, Managing Director of Wilson Bowden Developments said;
There has been a great deal of work put in to get the development to this stage, all the hard work has been made easier by our development partners Wrexham Borough Council, we are delighted to be working with them.
Cllr Bob Dutton OBE, Lead Member said “The development is now really taking shape, and the public will now begin to see how the councils vision for Wrexham is fast becoming a reality. The quality of the retailers already signed up to this development highlights the importance of Wrexham as a retail centre, Debenhams for example are not currently represented in the town centre.
The development, when complete, will feature a 90,000 sq ft Debenhams Department Store and a 24 lane Tenpin bowling alley in addition to 40 other retail units. An underground car park will be built with space for 1,000 cars.
The scheme is designed around an open mall which integrates with the existing town centre, forming walkways between York Street and Hope Street
Commenting on the progress of the lettings Development Director Will Robinson said;
We are delighted with the quality of the retailers that have signed up to the development so far, and we are currently speaking with other retailers who are keen for a presence in the Eagles Meadow Development”.
Paul Roberts, Strategic Director of Wrexham County Borough Council added “Eagles Meadow is a landmark scheme for Wrexham it will greatly enhance our town transforming Wrexham into a retail centre of regional importance.”
Eagles Meadow will generate vast economic benefits for the region creating jobs and introducing new businesses to the town.
Eagles Meadow is on schedule to complete in the summer of 2008.
Wilson Bowden Developments were selected as preferred partners by Wrexham Borough Council in 2004.
The scheme was designed by architects Bernard Engle.
