Traffic Management for Eagles Meadow Opening

As the opening of Wrexham's new retail and leisure development at Eagles Meadow draws closer, Wrexham Council's have announced plans to put in place temporary traffic management arrangements to avoid congestion during the opening days and in the run up to Christmas.

A Park and Ride will operate from the Council's Housing Office or Clywedog School on Ruthin Road from Thursday 30th October until Saturday 1st November and continue to operate on Saturdays leading up to Christmas. It will run every 15 minutes and will cost just 60p.

A bus will also operate from the bus stop at King Street to the development to help those travelling by bus into Wrexham

There will be temporary signage on the main routes into Wrexham to guide motorists to the most appropriate park. Traffic travelling from Chester to the development will be directed off the A483 at the Gresford interchange and into town along the A5152 Chester Road. Traffic travelling from the Oswestry area will be directed off the A483 at Croesfoel interchange and along the A5152 Rhostyllen Road.

Traffic travelling from Mold will not be directed but will continue the normal route into Regent Street and into town centre.

In the event that Eagles Meadow car park becomes full arrangements are in hand to erect temporary signs at Chester Road, Bradley Road and Fairy Road to advise motorists to use alternative town centre parks or Park and Ride whichever is the most appropriate.

It has also been agreed that no scheduled roadworks will take place in what is expected to be an exceptionally busy period. Only emergency roadworks will take place.

Cllr David Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said:

"Clearly, this major development will bring many new visitors into Wrexham and it is very important that traffic flows are maintained during busy times. The park and ride arrangements will remain in place every Saturday leading up to Christmas to ease traffic congestion in the town centre. Bus services will operate to the site and visitors coming by car into Wrexham will be directed to car parks throughout the town centre to discourage parking on streets."

On the 30th October visitors are expected to flock to Wrexham town centre when retailers Debenham's, Marks and Spencers, H&M, Bank, eating venues such as Nandos, Pizza Express and Frankie and Bennie's, a ten pin bowling alley all open for business, creating hundreds of jobs and putting Wrexham in the top 100 retail destinations in the UK.

Other shops will open in November including Top Shop, Top Man, Dorothy Perkins, Wallace and Burtons.

Wrexham Council is continuing to attract businesses to the town centre as its new retail rating in the uK places it in the running for other stores to consider opening in Wrexham. Laura Ashley has recently opened in the town centre as has a new leisure venue in the heart of the town centre, the Lounge opened its doors recently in fully refurbished premises on Queen Street formerly occupied by The Talbot
