Update - Foot and Mouth: Livestock keepers are urged to be vigilant
In line with recent veterinary advice the Welsh Assembly Government has decided to allow limited movement of animals susceptible to Foot and Mouth Disease under strict bio-security arrangements to address immediate issues in line with the Contingency Plan.
The national ban on movements of animals susceptible to Foot and Mouth remains in place however a number of movements under General Movement Licences are permitted. These include Single Movements to slaughter, fallen stock, milking or vet treatment, samples for diagnostic purposes, injured animals off roads, movement of carcasses to Veterinary Laboratory Agency and movement of laboratory rodents. Copies of these licences and general advice is available on the Welsh Assembly Government website www.wales.gov.uk/footandmouth, however it should be noted that the General Movement licences available on the website do not need to be sent anywhere but must be checked carefully to ensure that the conditions on the licence can be met prior to use.
Livestock keepers are urged to be vigilant and regularly check and examine any susceptible animals for symptoms of disease.
