Foot and Mouth Disease Update
Due to the disease appearing to have been contained in the protection and surveillance zones in Surrey, the Welsh Assembly Government have made further relaxations to the rules applying within the restricted area.Copies of general licences can be obtained from:
a) You can now move susceptible animals for welfare purposes authorised by a general licence within the same premises, fragmented by a public highway along which the distance travelled has not exceeded 1km for the following purposes:
Newly weaned animals
Pregnant sows to assist farrowing
Pregnant cows to assist calving
Animals to alleviate forage shortage
Animals for breeding
b) You can apply to the Animal Health Office, Caernarfon to move susceptible animals directly between two defined premises necessitated on grounds of acute welfare.
Animal Health will pass on your application to your Veterinary Surgeon. If successful a licence will be issued.
It is the applicants responsibility to meet any fees levied by the Veterinary Surgeon.
Both of these licensed movements only apply to movements wholly within Wales. With the disease appearing to be contained Wrexham Council’s advice line 01978 813774 will now be staffed only during normal office hours.
In the case of an emergency our normal out of hours officer can be contacted on 01978 367900.
