Statement re the Racecourse Ground (19.10.04)

Executive Board (19.10.04) agreed that the Strategic Director negotiate terms for the acquisition of the Raceourse Ground, Mold Road, Wrexham in order to safeguard the future of the public investment already made and to secure and develop the Ground as a regional venue for international and other sporting and non sporting events and as a community facility.

Any acquisition of the land will of course be subject to a funding plan being formulated and agreed by Executive Board in due course.

It is not within the Council’s powers or appropriate for the Council to intervene in the financial affairs of the football club. The Council’s position is to ensure that Wrexham Football Club remain at the Racecourse and will be supportive of any proposals to ensure that outcome.

Possible future development of the site will be subject to planning permission and any planning application will be considered in line with planning policies and without prejudice.
