Plans for major improvements to Llay Park Primary School have been submitted to Wrexham Council.
The project, worth £4.3 million pounds, includes the refurbishment of the existing junior school building, the building of a new extension for infant and pre school class and safety and access improvements to School Road. The majority of funding for the project has been provided by the Welsh Assembly.
The plans will now go out to consultation and it is hoped they will be considered by Planning Committee in the Autumn.
The refurbishment and new build will follow the BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM), the leading and most widely used environmental assessment standard for buildings.
If plans are approved work should start on the site in the Autumn and should be completed in time for the Autumn Term 2012. The work will be undertaken in two stages, the first will be the new extension followed by the major refurbishment of the existing Junior building.
Cllr Aled Roberts, Leader of Wrexham Council, said:
"This is further evidence of our commitment to improving school buildings for children and staff to ensure our young people are taught in an environment that will bring out the best of their abilities. We will continue to work with the Welsh Assembly to secure further funding for other schools in Wrexham."
School buildings improvements are ongoing throughout the county borough at the moment. Three secondary schools, Bryn Alyn in Gwersyllt, Darland in Rossett and The Maelor in Penley are currently receiving £20 million of improvements, work is to start this month on a £5 million new school in Rhosymedre and £6 million has just been announced for a new 210 place Welsh Medium primary school in the Gwersyllt area.
