Works taking place to provide a brand new sports hall at the Maelor School in Penley are progresing well and the contractor, Paveaways, is now working on the masonry above the damp proof course. The roof covering is almost complete and the sprinkler system is being installed.

Work is due to start on the underfloor heating installation, new windows and the Kalwall cladding installation will begin within the next few weeks. The external works also continues and the base for the new tennis courts is in place and the landscaping areas have been grass-seeded and are coming along well. The school will also benefit from a remodelled library and refurbishment works have already taken place at the school which have included replacement windows, toilet refurbishment and repairs and maintenance to the roof.

The works are part of the Wrexham Council's Secondary Schools Phase 2 programme which includes two other schools, Darland in Rossett and Bryn Alyn in Gwersyllt, who will all benefit from over £20 million of improvements in the coming months.
