Marford Conservation Area

Proposed Boundary Amendments & Draft Conservation Character Assessment and Management Plan

Members of the public are invited to view the Draft Conservation Character Assessment and Management Plan for the Marford area and to give their comments by 6 February.

A draft Conservation Area Character Assessment and Management Plan has been prepared by Wrexham Council's Planning Department. The document is divided into two parts; a Character Assessment which provides historical background and defines the qualities that make up the special character and appearance of the Conservation Area; and a Management Plan which sets out proposals for the preservation and enhancement of the area as well as design guidance for alterations to existing properties and for new development.

As part of the preparation of the draft Conservation Area Character Assessment and Management Plan a review has been undertaken of the existing Marford Conservation Area boundary and the protection it affords to the buildings within the immediate and adjacent area. As a result a number of boundary amendments are also proposed to the north, north west, south west and south east of the historic core of the village.

Proposals will be displayed at:

Trevor Arms Hotel, Marford Hill between 3.30 pm and 7.00 pm on Wednesday 25th January 2012.

Wrexham County Borough Council, Lambpit Street, reception area between Monday 23rd January and Friday 3rd February 2012.

Members of the public are invited to attend and leave their comments or ask questions of a Planning Officer who will be available on the day.

Written comments on the document and proposals should be submitted to the Head of Community Wellbeing & Development before Monday 6th February 2012.

Marford is situated approximately 4 miles to the north east of Wrexham on the former main Wrexham to Chester Road. The former Trevalyn estate village developed around Marford Hill which rises upwards marking the junction between the low-lying Cheshire Plain and the Welsh hills. The Cheshire Plain provides an important backdrop to the village extending for many miles to the east and providing views of distant landmarks including Eaton Hall and the River Dee. On the far horizon, interrupting the skyline are the Bickerton Hills. The Conservation Area centres of the unique historic core of the village which clings to the lower woodland slopes of Marford Hill. The attractive picturesque Cottage Orne design of many of the buildings gives the village a distinct identity and creates a strong sense of place within the Conservation Area.
