New Face at Wrexham Council

Marie LeBacq has taken up the position of Chief Safeguarding and Support Officer with Wrexham Council.

Marie began her career as a probation officer after graduating with an MA in Social Work from Nottingham University. The majority of her work has been in children's social care and she has worked in a variety of settings as social worker, trainer and manager in local authorities and in the voluntary sector. Marie also enjoyed a short time as a children's guardian before becoming a senior lecturer in several universities training social workers and other professionals at qualifying and post qualifying levels.

Marie undertook research in Britain, France and Belgium on child protectoon and child care issues before joining Wrexham Council in 2002 as a Planning and Commissioning Manager for Children. She briefly left to work in Stoke in Trent but Wrexham attracted her back again in January 2007 as Head of Safeguarding in the newly formed Children and Young People Service. She became the successful candidate for the Chief Safeguarding and Support Officer following the retirement of Bob McLaren.

Marie said:

"I am delighted to have been appointed as Chief Safeguarding and Support Officer as I have been strongly committed to children's social care throughout my career. I am particularly pleased to be able to undertake this role in Wrexham where the council and partner agencies place great importance on delivering services that promote good outcomes for children. I am impressed with the commitment and professionalism of staff within my department and I am looking forward to working with them in my new role. That role is to make sure that we serve the most vulnerable children and young people of Wrexham well and can provide their families with support and assistance when needed to ensure that children are safe and their welfare needs are met. I intend to use my energy, enthusiasm, experience and knowledge both to support staff and to ensure quality services for children, young people and their families"
