Wrexham Council names 2008 Modern Apprentice of the Year

Laura Miles has been named as Wrexham Council's Modern Apprentice of the year at the Council's annual Recognition of Achievement Day held at the Memorial Hall.

Laura, 19, a former pupil of Ysgol Bryn Alyn joined the Council's Modern Apprentice scheme in September 2007 and has just been awarded her NVQ Level II in IT. She started work with the Business Liaison Team and within a short time she was offered a graded Administrative Assistant post within Wrexham ITeC.

After receiving her award Laura, said:

"I am very pleased and proud to receive this award and would like to thank all my colleagues for their continued support.

Nathan Williams, 20, a former pupil of Darland High School, was named as runner up and works in the Council's Human Resources Department, he said:

"Since joining Wrexham Council I have gained an NVQ level II in IT and I know the experience I have gained will help me in my future career which I hope will remain in Human Resources.

Graham Williams, who nominated Laura for the award said:

"Laura slotted into a very well established and professional team with the utmost ease and always works to a very high standard submitting faultless work. She is willing to be involved with any duties which the team carry out and her customer care is consistent and of a very high quality. She has an exemplary time keeping and attendance record and she continues to exceed all expectations. It is a pleasure and a privilege to work with someone who is at the beginning of what is bound to be a highly successful career, whichever direction Laura chooses to follow."

Isobel Garner, Chief Executive of Wrexham Council said:

"Wrexham Council is committed to its Modern Apprentice scheme which gives our young people an excellent start into the world of local government and also provides them with recognised qualifications. I have become increasingly impressed with the calibre of the young people who join us every year, all of whom are looking for a career with Wrexham County Borough Council. I would like to congratulate Laura on this award and wish her the very best of luck as she continues on her career in with Wrexham Council. I would also like to congratulate, Nathan, Natasha and Charlotte who should all be proud of their achievements."

Joint 3rd was awarded to Natasha Mocko, who works in the Finance and Performance Department, and Charlotte Flett who works with the Environment Department.
