Glassy Museum takes shape

The work to refurbish Wrexham County Borough Museum has taken a major step forward with the erection by contractors ISG of the new glass extension at the front of the building. The structure will house a new coffee shop and the museum’s reception and shop when the museum re-opens to the public early in the New Year.

The project, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Welsh Assembly Government and Wrexham County Borough Council represents only phase one of a four phase scheme, will also see new exhibition galleries, including one devoted to the collections of Amgueddfa Cymru National Museums Wales and the National Library of Wales.

Cllr Bob Dutton, Lead Member for Communities and Performance, said:

“It is good to see the project progressing well and I know many residents are looking forward to visiting the Museum once again when exhibits and staff return to the site early next year.”
