Trading Standards officers in Wrexham are warning retailers to be more vigilant after four premises illegally sold knives to underage youngsters.

Plas Madoc Leisure and Activity Centre - Notice of Pool Closure

Please note that the pool at Plas Madoc Leisure Centre will be closed for essential maintenance work from Monday 1 September to Wednesday 3 September. All other facilities will be open as normal. The pool will re-open on Thursday 4th September.

Olympic Flag Flies in Wrexham

The Olympic Flag is flying in Wrexham Town Centre to mark the handing over of the Olympic Games 2012 to London.

Salop Road Highway Improvement

Work is to start on the £2.8 million environmental improvements in the town centre on 27th August which will see changes to the A525 Salop Road, Wrexham at the Junction of St Giles Way and the junction of Salisbury Road (Green Dragon).

Wrexham congratulates Tom James

The Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr David Griffiths, has passed on his congratulations and best wishes to Tom James following his Olympic Gold success in the coxless four at Beijing on Saturday. The Mayor said he would be inviting Tom to the Guildhall to personally thank him on behalf of the residents of Wrexham for his tremendous achievement.

Wrexham A-Level Results 2008

Students in Wrexham schools have once again received excellent A Level and AS level results. Whilst not all of the results have been fully analysed, early indications suggest an overall pass rate of 97.6% which is in line with the 2008 results for Wales and 0.4% better than the UK average.

Mayor pays tribute to Craig

The Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr David Griffiths has today paid tribute to Craig Owen, a pupil at Bryn Alyn School, where the Mayor is a Governor. Craig's mother Jayne works for Wrexham County Borough Council's Social Services department.

Bin Change Update

Wrexham Council are reporting good progress with the bin collection changes following a round review that has seen 60% of households change their bin day. Next week all households are being asked to check their new calendar for details of which bin will be collected.

Fire at Ashbourne Avenue, Gwersyllt

Wrexham Council were informed yesterday (22.07.08) of a fire at Ashbourne Avenue, Gwersyllt. North Wales Fire & Rescue Service and North Wales Police have now confirmed that as of 2pm today (23.07.08) residents are safe to return to their homes. Our Rest Centre in the Gwersyllt Community Resource Centre has now been closed

This year Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham Councils will be joining together as host counties for the 2008 Royal Welsh Agricultural Show Royal which will be held in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells from 21 – 24 July.

Bin Collections Due to Strike Disruption

Residents whose general waste bin (blue or black bin) was not collected due to strike action on Wednesday 16th July and Thursday 17th July are asked to put it out for emptying on Wednesday 23rd July or Thursday 24th July.

Strike Action

There will be unavoidable disruption to services in Wrexham County Borough due to nationwide strike action by local government workers over two days on July 16 & 17, 2008. The action is being taken in response to the proposed pay offer of 2.45%.

Bradley Road - Urgent Road Closure

"Due to a burst water main outside the Fire Station, Bradley Road in Wrexham has closed to traffic travelling from Grosvenor Road to allow an immediate repair. The work will commence immediately and could take up to two days to complete.

Summer Sun Fun in West Wrexham

Gwersyllt Community Resource Centre and the Plas Pentwyn Centre in Coedpoeth will be hosting a fantastic arts project throughout the summer, where people will have the opportunity to try their hand at using a variety of skills including silk painting, drawing, working with clay and plaster, mosaics plus many more.

Closure of Halton Skip

Residents in the Halton, Chirk and Glyn Ceiriog areas are being advised that from Saturday 2nd August the temporary skip sited there will close permanently. Residents are asked to use the more modern and safer Household Recycling Centre at Plas Madoc.

Major Changes to Wrexham's Bin Collection Days

Major changes to Wrexham's bin collection service start next month on 4th August. Members of the Executive Board have agreed the changes that will mean up to 60% of households will have their bin collection day changed. The decision follows a review of the efficiency and capacity of the current service.
