Cigarette Vending Machines Banned

From Wednesday 1st February 2012 it will be illegal for cigarettes to be sold from vending machines in Wales. From that date it should no longer be possible to buy cigarettes from a machine. The Welsh Government has passed this law in response to evidence that many children who smoke regularly get their cigarettes from vending machines.

Children in Wrexham Gain Right of Appeal to the Educational Needs Tribunal for Wales

Wrexham is one of only two pilot areas in Wales testing a new Education (Wales) Measure which allows children themselves to be able to make their own special educational needs appeal and claim of disability discrimination. Presently this can only be done by parents.

Medieval treasures go on show at Wrexham County Borough Museum & Archives

Medieval Minds is the new exhibition opening in Gallery 2, the space at Wrexham County Borough Museum & Archives dedicated to the display of artefacts and archives from the National Museum Wales and the National Library of Wales.

Update - Pool Closure at Chirk Leisure & Activity Centre

Following the installation of a new boiler heating and ventilation system and changing room refurbishment, further essential maintenance is required at the pool at Chirk Leisure & Activity Centre. The pool will now reopen to the public week commencing 30th January.

Chirk Station to get £1.2 million access funding

Local Government Revenue and Capital Settlement 2012-13

Wrexham County Borough Council received details of its settlement from the Welsh Government on Wednesday 7 December. An amount of £184m will be provided for Wrexham, a 1.2% increase on last year.

Christmas Market Cancelled

It is with regret that organisers have had to cancel tomorrow's popular Christmas market in Wrexham town centre (Church Grounds and Church Street). This is due to the high winds of today which are expected to get worse tomorrow. As a result we cannot guarantee public safety. Please let family and friends know of this decision. Wrexham Council and the stall holders are naturally extremely disappointed but stress that the matter is beyond their control.

Ministry of Justice Telephone Scam

A Wrexham resident has been conned out of over £3000 by a caller saying he was from the Ministry of Justice and was told he was owed money as a result of mis-sold payment protection insurance.

Rail Passenger Numbers in Wrexham County Borough Continue to Rise

There are five stations in the County Borough, Wrexham General, Wrexham Central, Gwersyllt, Ruabon and Chirk and data from the Office of the Rail Regulator shows that all of them have shown an increase in rail journeys by an average of 49% since 2005.
