New car parking machines will make payments easier and deter thieves

New ticket machines will be operational in Council car parks across Wrexham from January 1st, 2017

The new machines will initially take cash, and will also be able to accept Chip and Pin and Contactless payments soon, with the new system due to be online in early January.

Normal charging at council car parks – applicable to each car park – will resume on January 1st, as free parking in town centre car parks finishes on December 31st.

The new machines are installed at:

St Giles
Market Street
Crescent Road
St Georges Crescent
Library
Waterworld
The Guildhall
Ruabon Car Park (due to be installed end of January)

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “The success of our of free parking at all of our car parks throughout December 2016 has proven that people will make use of our car parks, and with the new ticket machines installed, this will help make parking in Wrexham easier and more convenient.

“As well as accepting cash payments, the new Chip and Pin and Contactless facilities will mean those using the car parks will not need to hunt for change beforehand – and with less cash in the machines, they will also pose a less tempting target to thieves.

“I hope the ease of use and low charges at our car parks will attract even more visitors to Wrexham.”
