Free fun at Pontcysyllte AqueductWrexham’s World Heritage Site will be the setting for a free fun day this Saturday, August 11.
The event will take place at Trevor Basin, right next to Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, from 12pm to 5pm.
Organisers say the canalside will be teeming with activity, including an old fashioned carousel and fairground games for children, craftwork sessions with the local youth club, a coconut shy, a huge inflatable slide, face painting and entertainer ‘Gary Sausage.’
Various stalls will also be selling bric-a-brac, crafts, jewellery, raffles, books, toys and more. Refreshments will be available, including hot dogs from the barbecue run by 1st Trevor Scouts.
Hands-on activities include learning how to make a bird or dormouse box with North Wales Wildlife Trust, and there’ll be a chance to find out more about latest projects by the Plas Kynaston Canal Group.
Those who fancy crossing the aqueduct by narrowboat can take a trip with ‘Jones the Boat.’
While those who don’t fancy the crossing can join the Canal Boat Trust aboard ‘Glas y Dorlan’ to see a specially adapted narrowboat that is accessible to people with mobility problems.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy a simple stroll around Trevor Basin, take a short walk over the aqueduct to Froncysyllte, or walk into Cefn Mawr or Ty Mawr Country Park.
Staff at the new Visitor Information Point will be on-hand to give directions and point people to displays inside the building about the history of the aqueduct.
The event is being organised by Wrexham Council’s Assets and Economic Development Department.
Entry to the fun day is free, with plenty of free parking close by.
