Have Your Say on Wrexham Post Office Closures
Following the announcement by Post Office Ltd of their proposals to close 10 offices in Wrexham County Borough, Wrexham Council has launched its own consultation process to ensure that local residents’ views are taken into account.
The Council’s Economic Development Department has developed a questionnaire which residents will be able to complete to make their voice heard in this national rationalisation being undertaken by the Post Office. The questionnaire will be distributed through a wide range of outlets including community centres, leisure centres and all Council buildings. The questionnaire will also be available to be completed online at www.wrexham.gov.uk/postoffice
Cllr Rodney Skelland, Lead Member for Corporate Governance & Regeneration, says: “The Council recognises the need for provision of post office services across the County Borough and wants to ensure that an effective service remains available to all residents. We are unlikely to be in a position to reverse all the decisions but we want to make sure that whatever is finally decided has taken post office users’ views into account.”
The Post Office has announced its intention to close offices in Acton Park, Bradley, Rhosrobin, Summerhill, Marchwiel, New Broughton, Ponciau, Rhosymedre, Tan y Fron and Trefor. These plans are part of a North Wales Area Plan which itself is part of a nationwide Network Change Programme that will see 1150 post offices close throughout Wales. The new “outreach” services are planned to minimise the impact of these closures.
Wrexham Council is seeking to gather residents’ views on the proposed changes by September 8th 2008, which will allow for the consolidated responses to be fed into the Post Office’s own consultation process which runs until 15th September. More information on the Post Office plans are available at their website www.postoffice.co.uk.
