REME Freedom March - Route Announcement

On Friday 5th April soldiers from the 101 Force Support Battalion - Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) will be marching through the streets of Wrexham town centre following the  granting the Freedom of the Borough by Wrexham Council.

They will begin their Freedom March from their base at Hightown Barracks at 11.00 am.  They will march to town via Kingsmills Road, Salop Road, Mount Street, Yorke Street, High Street, Hope Street, Queens Street, Queens Square and they should arrive at Llwyn Isaf at 11.30.

About 280 soldiers will form the parade and they will return along the reverse route at 12 noon.  They have recently returned from UN Peacekeeping duties in Cyprus.

The Battalion has been based at Hightown Barracks since 1999 and have formed close links with the County Borough by enlisting local men and women and work within the community.  They have also supported the wider armed forces in the area.

The Freedom of the Borough will be signed at a special council meeting that will take place at 10.00 am.  At this meeting the Council, along with many other community and public organisations will also sign a Community Covenant with the Armed Services.

The Covenant is designed to encourage the public to support the armed forces in their area and improve public understanding of the issues affecting personnel.
