Students dance their way to successSixteen talented students from Ysgol y Grango competed in the National United Dance Organisation Street Dance Championships held in Blackpool.
The Wrexham dance troop were rewarded with a medal worthy fourth place after performing a flawless routine in the 11-14 age category competing against over thirty other teams from across the UK.
The group were first introduced to street dance through the Sport Wales 5x60 extra curricular sport programme, delivered locally by Wrexham Council’s Sports Development department and have championed it ever since.
Rebecca Phillips, 5x60 Officer at Ysgol y Grango said:
“The team’s success is well deserved and reflects the commitment shown by the students who have regularly attended the weekly sessions whilst working in partnership with Urban Fusion. The skills the students have learnt in such a short space of time has enabled them to compete against already established dance groups.”
Cllr Bob Dutton OBE, Lead Member for Communities and Performance said:
“I am delighted for the dedicated students at Ysgol y Grango and the 5x60 team. The extra school sport programme aims to introduce children and young people to the many different forms of physical activity and make participation in sport fun for everyone.”
