Tidy Towns Launched in Wrexham
Communities in Wrexham are set to benefit from funding from the Welsh Assembly Government under its Tidy Towns initiative. Wrexham Council have received £121,000 under the scheme and is now contacting all 34 community councils in the county borough to submit a scheme which they believe will improve their environment.
There are several schemes that could be considered for example an Environmental Action Day in a particular area, clearance of a particular site or location or additional signage to discourage fly tipping in an area. Whatever the scheme as long as it fits the criteria it will be considered for funding.
The projects will also be in partnership with local volunteers, schools, businesses and Wrexham Council will provide support such as footpath sweepers and high pressure washing machines.
Some of the funding will also be used for county wide improvements such as the Wales in Bloom entry, actions to deal with cigarette waste and providing additional educational activities in Country Parks.
Cllr Dave Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said:
"This is an excellent opportunity for community councils and local residents to take pride in their area and work together to improve the environment for everyone. There is obviously a limited amount that can be spent in each area and funding will be available each year for three years." This initiative supports Pride in Your Streets” in making Wrexham a cleaner, greener and safer place to live.
Community Councils have until the 31st October to submit their bids for funding. Further information is available to community councils from Zoe Jade, 01978 296013.
