Waterworld Café gain Healthy Options Award

Waterworld Café is first council site in North Wales to win ‘Healthy Options Award’.

Wrexham Council already award food hygiene certificates to catering premises and those who have received one are now eligible to be assessed for a ‘Healthy Options Award’. The award, has three tiers, bronze, silver and gold, and recognises and encourages catering premises to provide healthier options to customers.

Waterworld achieved their bronze award through employment of healthier catering practices and by providing balanced meals, increasing the amount of fruit and vegetables on offer, and decreasing the saturated fat, sugar and salt.

Café manager Rose Martin and her team received the award from Neil Underwood Senior Environmental Health Officer and Melissa Hall Food Safety Officer from the council’s Housing and Public protection department.

Neil Underwood said, "I am pleased to hand over this award and hope to see many more being presented in the future".

Rose Martin manager of the café said, “We are so pleased to receive this award and we have worked so hard at achieving it. Healthy eating is something we should always encourage and I am now looking forward to working towards the Silver award!”
