Students from Yale College's Creative Media Production course have again scooped the North Wales prize in the Road Safety Wales Anti Drink Drive competition for their short video called A Lost Beauty.
It is the second time in three years that the Yale media students have won the top prize of £500, in addition to the £200 they collected for initially winning the Wrexham prize.
Course leader, Tony Pugh said
“It is a really great result for the Creative Media Production course considering it was the new first year students who were only a few weeks into their course who had written, filmed and produced the winning film. As well as spreading the message of not drinking and driving to young people, the prize money is also very welcome and will be used to buy a new camera for the course”.
Cllr David Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said:
"With the festive season upon us this is very timely advice for young people to remember that even a small amount of alcohol will impair driving skills. The best option is too not drink at all if there's a chance that you might be behind the wheel."
The video story begins with a model played by student Danielle Fisher aged 17, blowing a kiss towards the camera while she is taking part in a photo-shoot. It shows the model getting ready for different outfits. She is then seen drinking a glass of wine and partying with friends and getting extremely drunk. The screen then goes black and the sound of a car crash is then heard. The screen fades up from black showing the model smiling which fades into the same image on a poster attached to a lamppost announcing her death. Young people are placing flowers by the poster. We then see them disperse and cut to a close up of the memorial poster as the last shot before fading to black.
The team who produced the short video are;- Alex Bromilow 18, Rhiannon Jones 18, Danielle Fisher 17, Jay Hankin 19, Ryan Parry 17 and Michael Miller 16. Any additional information contact Tony Pugh on 0798 5066 791.
