The Physical, Sensory and Neurological Impairment (PSNI) Service consists of two teams: PSNI Team and Occupational Therapy Team.
The PSNI Team consists of social workers, rehabilitation officers for visual impairment and deafness support workers and provides social work support to people under the age of 65 with a physical, neurological or sensory disability.
The Occupational Therapy Team consists of occupational therapists and disability support officers and carries out assessments for disability equipment and adaptations.
The PSNI/IL Service also leads on Direct Payments across the Department. Direct Payments is a way of paying money to a disabled person so that he or she can arrange his or her own support services. This is a popular method for people to have more choice and control over exactly how and when their support is provided to them.
The views of people who have used the PSNI service are gathered using questionnaires given to everyone when they have an assessment or a review. This allows people to tell us what we have done well, what we could do better, and what improvements you think we could make.
